My truck is a ‘95 Chevrolet S10, built in October of 1994.

Went to a shop today and found out it is OBD 2, weirdly enough.

Anyway, it’s got an ABS light on and is throwing these brake code faults: C1246 C1265 C1268.

C1246: ABS Outlet Valve Coil RR Circuit Failure

C1265: Lamp Warning Relay Short to Ground

C1268: Motor Relay #1 Circuit Failure

Any ideas, mechanics? I was leaning towards the brake pressure modulator valve.

For what it’s worth, the brakes feel and sound the same as they always did and I believe the ABS is still working as it is supposed to (it’s not coming on at random times or anything). I did a hard stop and I believe I felt the pedal pulsate. The wheels didn’t lock up, anyway.

I hope it’s not something expensive. Although S10 parts are usually cheap no matter what.

Pull the ABS fuse and hope it just kills the entire system and gets rid of the light?

Is it 4-wheel or rear-wheel ABS? A lot of trucks around that era had rear-wheel only.

It’s 4 wheel as far as I know.

You sure? I would read this:

My 91 4Runner has something similar, and I know for a fact that a buddy’s S10 Blazer(generation before yours, the boxier one) is rear only. I don’t 100% understand the engineering constraints of why they wouldn’t just use a 4-wheel system, I think it’s something with disk front/drum rear and keeping the back in check is more important on trucks because they can have some interesting braking characteristics when unloaded.

My 03 Sonoma did this and it was abs sensor behind the left wheel.

C1268: Motor Relay #1 Circuit Failure

Keep in mind that any time you have a “circuit failure” it could very well be just a damaged wire.

So don’t skip a quick visual inspection. Look for anything that might have gotten hit, cut, pinched, or chewed. If the wire goes somewhere where you can’t see it, don’t be afraid to disconnect it from the system components, and use a multimeter to check for resistance between one end and the other.

According to this:

www.aa1car.com/library/abs_kelseyhayes.atm

It has 4 wheel ABS because it has the amber ABS warning light and the red BRAKE warning lights.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

How does this “describe your vehicle as belonging to the following year” work again? Can you just arbitrarily decide at some point in the middle of the year that it’s now next year, or is there some system behind it?

I just mentioned that because 1995 was a switchover year from OBD1 to OBD2. Some cars in ‘95 had OBD2 and some had OBD1.

Manufacturers decide what year a car is when it’s built. There are even some 2016.5 vehicles (Mazdas). And the first Ford Mustang is classified as a 1964.5.

This is what was wrong with mine, the wire was snapped off about half way down. Threw the ABS light too
